Demand for weapons, ammunition, and other types of war equipment surged as the Third Reich steadily prepared for war and a rematch to satisfy German grievances regarding the outcome of World War I. However, there was a problem: as German workers were removed from their workplaces and enlisted in the military, a labour shortage started to gradually worsen. Siemens and other German firms began using slave labour as a result. Native political prisoners held in the nation’s concentration camps made up the initial source of forced labour.
